Woodlands Water Project
The Woodlands Community is located in the Hwange Rural District in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Three boreholes were drilled in three of the four Woodlands villages. Our goal is to complete this project by powering the boreholes using secure solar systems (specifically built for protection against wild elephants). The community is eager to lend their hand in this project, and will also contribute towards the security of equipment on site.
Masuwe School and the Woodlands community faced further water challenges after several borehole thefts in 2020. Some villagers access water from the very few who own private boreholes, and most must walk long distances to fetch water from the surrounding dams. This is a great risk in a community located in a rural wilderness area where water quality is low.
We urgently need funding to power the three boreholes. This is critical to get farming programs running in the community, which will support employment and enterprise development.
