Many of MORE Family Collection’s guests are looking to form a real connection with the places they visit by giving back in tangible ways, which enrich the lives of people here – and guests’ own through these experiences. In response, MCF has specifically created a number of experiences that give guests opportunities to encounter different (and humbling) ways of life; visit culturally and historically significant sites; and meet local people, while positively impacting their lives. All experiences can be arranged directly with the lodges and hotels, or booked in advance through central reservations.

Over the years, MCF has built close relationships with MORE Family Collection’s local communities in rural villages and urban townships. Visitors are welcomed into the community to meet the residents, visit MCF projects, and see something of life here – a humbling and rewarding experience. MCF Community Experiences are largely customised for each guest or group.

Lion Sands Community Tour

The Lions Sands Game Reserve Community Tour is approximately 3 hours long, and offers guests a personalised experience of rural village life in the Huntington and Justicia communities, which lie on the outskirts of the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve and Kruger National Park.

Included in the itinerary is a visit to Henna Pre-school in Huntington (More Community Foundation’s first project in 2002), and Jabez Pre-school in Justicia B. Meet the teachers, spend some time with the children, and see the work being done and the challenges faced.

Also included is a visit to the Huntington Digital Learning Campus. In partnership with The Goodwork Foundation, MCF supports this digital learning facility, which literally opens up the world to school-going learners and adults – giving them a far greater chance of employment and self sufficiency.

You’ll also learn about the ongoing challenge of fresh, running water in these impoverished communities, and MCF’s projects on the ground to meet this critical need.

Marataba-Madikwe Community Tour

The Marataba-Madikwe Community Tour is a full day tour, taking guests into the rural village of Obakeng for an authentic experience of local village life, and the challenges faced by community members.

The tour includes a visit to Itekeng Basha Crèche and the Motshabaesi Primary School, with an introduction to the Induna (the Village Chief).

Then onwards to the small Heuningvley Primary School, located on Honingvlei Farm, which is the only learning centre in the area, and attracts children from surrounding farms as far as 50kms away.

Stanley & Livingstone Community Tour

In Victoria Falls, The Stanley & Livingstone Community Tour takes you into the heart of the Woodlands Community.

This farming-dependent community, comprising four villages, lies on the outskirts of the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve.

The tour takes you to the Masuwe Primary School, the only school in the vicinity, where you meet the young learners and their dedicated teachers, and experience the opportunities they have taken advantage of and the challenges they face.

Water is a very scarce commodity in Woodlands, which you will fully appreciate after engaging with community members who seek self sufficiency through agriculture. Learn more about our projects on the ground to meet this critical need.
