Injongo Educare Centre gets a facelift, qualifying for governmental support

It was a happy, happy day in Cape Town’s Mfuleni Township Community on Tuesday 19 October 2022 when the Injongo Educare Centre unveiled its brand new ablution block!

We shared an incredible day with the Injongo team opening the ablutions to the school and getting each and every child, teacher, helper, cook, cleaner and volunteer to lay their painted hand on the block as part of our “Hands of the Community”, blessing the building and the school. It was a beautiful day filled with joy, laughter, smiles and much jubilation as we cut the ribbon.

Not only will 140 young learners now have access to improved sanitation and greater comfort, the little school now qualifies for much needed governmental support.  Following a directive from the Department of Health and Education, the upgrade of the school’s ablution facility was a requirement before support would be considered.

Now, this is no ordinary school for it was born from one woman’s very big heart. She saw the need for the community’s young children to have a place to go to learn, be nurtured, nourished and protected. She took it upon herself to generously open her arms to selflessly give, and so many families and little lives have been enriched in the process.

One of our core pillars relates to Education, including early childhood development. We join a global community in our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations. Goal #4 is to ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’. Projects like this enable us to keep the momentum going.

We could not do this alone. Thanks to the very generous support of AnthonyAmunategui and Sophia Amunategui who funded the entire project! The impact of their contribution is immeasurable.
