Huntington Water Project – Huntington Village
This program aims to respond effectively to the water crisis in local communities, where access to clean drinking water is limited and is insufficient for the village population’s needs. The South African constitution’s mandate that every human being must have access to clean drinking water is not being met.
After investigating Huntington’s access to water, More Community Foundation determined that the community had inadequate access to clean water, and that the effects of the water crisis were profoundly impacting many facets of local life – including education, employment and health care.
As MCF receives funds, we meet requests from the Huntington Community Development Forum (CDF), the local Tribal Authority and the Induna (the Village Elder) to install boreholes in predetermined sites.
PROGRESS: In April 2022 we finished drilling the Huntington North borehole – the final installment to conclude the community’s water plans. The borehole is fully managed by the Community Development Forum, and feedback from the community. The community in that section has developed a sustainable management plan for the borehole, chaired by a local committee.
